This question is largely dependent on skill level and body type. These days, the level of experienced female riders are as varied as male riders.

The first bike that you ride (whether on course of independently) is going to be a learning tool that will go through some ups and downs (possibly literally), so it may be advantageous not to put a fortune into the bike of your dreams for your first bike. Many of the smaller bikes, such as the type used on course, have a high turnover rate, for selling, because as riders get used to the road, they quickly outgrow these smaller engines.
